SUMMARY:"Teddy" by Sheila Forsey
DESCRIPTION:Sheila Forsey’s Teddy at Tao House \nSep 12 & 13 (Sat 7:30pm\, Sun 1:30pm) \nShuttle from MuseumSRV map it(opens in new tab) \nCheck out our Festival program here \nRose has come home to spend Christmas with her family in Ireland after living in America for many years. At the heart of her visit is a desire to reunite with her developmentally challenged son Teddy who is now approaching adulthood. As a troubled teen mother Rose was forced to leave Teddy in the care of her parents as she sorted out her life; eventually overcoming her demons\, finding herself and starting a successful business. When Rose reveals her desire to take Teddy home to America with her\, she finds a fierce resistance as old battlelines get redrawn\, secrets come to light\, and the ghosts of the past turn holiday merriment into devastating drama. \nWexford playwright Sheila Forsey collaborated with Foundation Artistic Director Eric Fraisher Hayes to create Teddy\, which premiered in 2024 at the Eugene O’Neill International Festival of Theatre in New Ross\, Ireland. We are proud to present this US premiere featuring a cast of Irish and American actors. \n  \nAbout the Playwright: Sheila Forsey is an Irish Times bestselling author of historical fiction whose work is renowned for its evocative portrayal of 20th-century Ireland and its complex social history. Her books are published by Poolbeg Books\, and she is represented by The Kate Nash Literary Agency in London. \nIn 2021\, her play The Memory Room was selected as a finalist at Scripts Ireland’s Playwriting Festival\, where she worked under the mentorship of Eugene O’Brien. The play subsequently received a professional reading directed by Jim Culleton of Fishamble\, \nsupported by the Arts Council\, before premiering at the Eugene O’Neill International Festival in New Ross in 2025 under the direction of Artistic Director of Tao House Eric Fraisher Hayes. Her play Teddy\, developed through the Wexford Playwrights Studio\, premiered at the Eugene O’Neill International Festival in New Ross in 2024 and was also directed by Hayes. \nSheila is a graduate of Maynooth University and Trinity College Dublin. She is a Writer in Schools with Poetry Ireland and works as a Heritage Expert with the Heritage Council of Ireland. \nAbout the Director: Eric Fraisher Hayes has collaborated with playwright Sheila Forsey on productions of The Memory Room and Teddy. Both shows premiered at the Eugene O’Neill International Festival of Theatre in New Ross\, Ireland. Overall\, he has directed 10 productions with our friends and partners from the Emerald Isle. In the past 18 years\, Eric has directed 36 of Eugene O’Neill’s 51 plays making him the foremost interpreter of the playwright. When not directing\, he teaches acting around the San Francisco Bay Area and writes and gives presentations. Eric has been named a co-chair for the 2029 International Eugene O’Neill Conference in Los Angeles. \n  \nWe’re delighted to bring the Teddy cast and Sheila Forsey to Danville! Join us in welcoming Sheila to Tao House for the two performances on Sept. 12–13 (Sat & Sun). Sheila will be on-hand for this US Premiere of Teddy. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Codebreaker Who Cracked the Black Dahlia and Zodiac Cases
DESCRIPTION:The Codebreaker Who Cracked\nthe Black Dahlia and Zodiac Cases\nAlex Baber\nIn Conversation with \nMichael Connelly\, Rick Jackson\, \nMitzi Roberts\, and David Tresmontan \nA Fundraising Event for The Eugene O’Neill Foundation\, Tao House – $125 \nVillage Theatre\, Danville \nSaturday\, Feb. 21\, 2026 \n7:30pm \nBUY TICKETS \nAlex Baber broke the Zodiac Killer’s code\, which enabled him not only to identify Marvin Margolis as the Zodiac Killer\, but also to prove that Margolis murdered Elizabeth Short\, the Black Dahlia. Three of America’s most formidable cold case detective—Rick Jackson\, Mitzi Roberts\, and David Tresmontan—stake their reputations on the validity of Baber’s conclusions. \nVIEW VIRTUAL PROGRAM \n  \nListen to Michael Connelly’s podcast\, “Killer in the Code.” \nThen join us at the Village Theatre on Feb. 21 as Connelly\, Jackson\, Roberts\, and Tresmontan draw out Alex on how he managed to solve two of America’s most mystifying cold cases. \nQuestions will be taken from audience members.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlex Baber\, with his genius IQ and the hyper-concentration characteristic of his autism\, succeeded where all others had failed—breaking the code of the Zodiac Killer’s final taunting communication with authorities. This enabled Baber to not only establish that the Zodiac Killer was a man named Marvin Margolis\, but also to prove that Margolis murdered Elizabeth Short\, the Black Dahlia. \nBaber is the Director of Cold Case Consultants of America (C.C.C.O.A)\, an independent investigative consulting firm specializing in unresolved criminal cases. His work focuses on evidence review\, forensic documentation\, and primary-source analysis\, with particular emphasis on cold cases. Baber regularly collaborates with law enforcement liaisons and forensic experts\, providing research support\, case consultation\, and archival analysis in service of victims and their families. \nMichael Connelly is the best-selling author of forty-two novels\, which have sold over 90 million copies worldwide. Connelly is also the executive producer of both Bosch and Bosch Legacy\, as well as The Lincoln Lawyer and Ballard. \nRick Jackson is a retired LAPD homicide and cold case detective who has been called “the Godfather to L.A. Crime Writers\,” having consulted with Connelly\, James Ellroy\, Joseph Wambaugh\, and a dozen others. \nMitzi Roberts led the LAPD’s Cold Case Unit\, where she was responsible for the continuing investigation of the Black Dahlia case. She apprehended Sam Little\, the most prolific serial killer. Her career inspired Connelly’s Amazon series Ballard. \nDavid Tresmontan served in city\, county\, state\, and federal law enforcement agencies. He developed and continues to serve in the Cold Case Homicide Unit of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

SUMMARY:Tales from the Edge: Three Stories of Survival
DESCRIPTION:Tales from the Edge: Three One-Act Stories of Survival \n\nThe Dreamy Kid by Eugene O’Neill \nCocaine by Pendleton King \nExorcism by Eugene O’Neill \nDirected by Eric Fraisher Hayes and Kimberly Ridgeway \n  \nMuseum of the San Ramon Valley map it. \nJanuary 9\, 10 and 11\, 2026  – All performances are SOLD OUT! \n  \nTalkbacks: Join post-show discussions Friday 9 with our two directors and dramaturg William Davies King and Saturday 10 with the production team (actors\, directors\, and dramaturg.) \nTales from the Edge is a trio of early 20th century one-act plays presented with script in hand that explore the challenges of surviving in a society that disadvantages people based on race\, gender\, and economic circumstance. The Dreamy Kid deals with personal loyalties in difficult circumstances exacerbated by a system of unequal justice. Cocaine delves into struggles with addiction and its effects on relationships. And Exorcism is a highly auto-biographical accounting of Eugene O’Neill’s brush with death while living amongst society’s outcasts. The plays in “Tales from the Edge” are as relevant today as they were when they were written more than 100 years ago. Society always has its outsiders\, and these are their tales. \n  \nView our Program here and Cast Bios here. \n  \nEngagement Guide: In preparation for January’s Tales From the Edge\, Three Stories of Survival\, read our dramaturgs’ in-depth guide here. \nVirtual Discussion: As an introduction to the three script-in-hand one-acts\, dramaturgs Katie Johnson and William Davies King met for a free virtual discussion on our upcoming Tales From the Edge\, Three Stories of Survival in January. Watch the recording of this talk on our YouTube channel here. \n\nMeet the Cast of Tales From the Edge\, Three Stories of Survival. \nWe have a lot of new faces joining us for the start of the new year. Our “Tales from the Edge” ensemble features newcomers Eliot Hall\, Ashley Jaye\, Kye Gahyun Kim\, Maryclare McCauley\, and Gary J. Moore as well as returning actor Kevin Copps\, who played James Tyrone in our 2019 production of Long Day’s Journey Into Night. \n \nThe program of three script-in-hand plays will be co-directed by guest director Kimberly Ridgeway and EONF Artistic Director Eric Fraisher Hayes. No stranger to O’Neill\, Kimberly performed in The Emperor Jones (2016) and was production manager for Long Day’s Journey Into Night (2019). Although she is a veteran director with many Bay Area credits\, this is her directing debut for us. We are very happy to see her return.

Eugene O’Neill famously said\, “The one thing that explains more than anything about me is the fact that I’m Irish.” Ireland early recognized O’Neill’s genius with celebrated productions of his plays. \nWhy in New Ross? James O’Neill\, Eugene’s father\, lived with his parents and seven siblings in nearby Tinneranny. In 1847\, in the wake of the potato famine\, the O’Neills emigrated from the Port of New Ross. James\, then five years old\, later became one of the most famous actors in America. The festival honors not only Eugene O’Neill but also James\, a favorite son of New Ross.

SUMMARY:O'Neill's "The Hairy Ape"
DESCRIPTION:THE HAIRY APE by Eugene O’Neill \n\n\nDirected by Eric Fraisher Hayes \n\n\n  \nSep 5–7/11–14 (Thu-Sat 7:30pm\, Sun 1:30pm) \n\n\nShows at Tao House with shuttle from Museum of the San Ramon Valley one and a half hours prior to performance.   map it \n\n\nRun time is approximately 90 minutes with one intermission \n  \n\n\nSep 20\, 21 (Sat 7:30pm\, Sun 1:30pm)***  Talkbacks with director and cast following all Village Theatre performances \n\n\nShows at the Village Theater  map it \n  \n\n\nTo Purchase Tickets for Sep 20\, 21 at Village Theatre please visit: https://ci.ovationtix.com/35625 \n  \n\n\nNearly all of Eugene O’Neill’s characters struggle with a world of private pain aggravated by a powerful sense of feeling out of place. Like the playwright himself\, they long to find a sense of belonging. Often these characters\, after reflection\, choose retreat. They choose to escape a painful existence by disengaging from the world around them. But one of O’Neill’s desperate misfits takes a different tack. Robert “Yank” Smith in The Hairy Ape finds himself equally out of place and in pain\, but instead of manufacturing a private refuge\, he barrels headfirst into the world around him seeking to prove how he fits\, not how to escape the world. Driven by an unmatched desire to find where he belongs\, Yank is Eugene O’Neill’s ultimate seeker. \n\n\nIn The Hairy Ape\, Yank is the master of all he surveys until an encounter with a mysterious woman in white turns his world upside down. The experience sends him on a quest to find her and ultimately find where he belongs. Eugene O’Neill’s 1922 theatrical fantasy will be brought to life by a dynamic ensemble of six actors in a highly imaginative production of this O’Neill classic. \n\nRead/download our The Hairy Ape Engagement Guide by Dramaturg Beth Wynstra here \nCheck out The Hairy Ape program here
