Dynamo delves into the search for a deity in a modern world. When conventional religious beliefs fail to help Ruben Light to reconnect with his lost mother, he finds the answer to his prayers through the worship of the tremendous power of electricity. This cautionary tale about the search to find one’s center in the ever-increasing whirl of modernity provides interesting insights into our new century.
The 1929 Broadway premiere of Dynamo featured actress Claudette Colbert and continued in the experimental theatrical footsteps of Strange Interlude, The Hairy Ape and The Emperor Jones which was presented to sold-out houses in the Old Barn at Tao House as part of the recent Eugene O’Neill Festival.
