Alex Baber broke the Zodiac Killer’s code, which enabled him not only to identify Marvin Margolis as the Zodiac Killer, but also to prove that Margolis murdered Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia. Three of America’s most formidable cold case detective—Rick Jackson, Mitzi Roberts, and David Tresmontan—stake their reputations on the validity of Baber’s conclusions.

Listen to Michael Connelly’s podcast, “Killer in the Code.”

Then join us at the Village Theatre on Feb. 21 as Connelly, Jackson, Roberts, and Tresmontan draw out Alex on how he managed to solve two of America’s most mystifying cold cases.

Questions will be taken from audience members.

Alex Baber, with his genius IQ and the hyper-concentration characteristic of his autism, succeeded where all others had failed—breaking the code of the Zodiac Killer’s final taunting communication with authorities. This enabled Baber to not only establish that the Zodiac Killer was a man named Marvin Margolis, but also to prove that Margolis murdered Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia.

Baber is the Director of Cold Case Consultants of America (C.C.C.O.A), an independent investigative consulting firm specializing in unresolved criminal cases. His work focuses on evidence review, forensic documentation, and primary-source analysis, with particular emphasis on cold cases. Baber regularly collaborates with law enforcement liaisons and forensic experts, providing research support, case consultation, and archival analysis in service of victims and their families.

Michael Connelly is the best-selling author of forty-two novels, which have sold over 90 million copies worldwide. Connelly is also the executive producer of both Bosch and Bosch Legacy, as well as The Lincoln Lawyer and Ballard.

Rick Jackson is a retired LAPD homicide and cold case detective who has been called “the Godfather to L.A. Crime Writers,” having consulted with Connelly, James Ellroy, Joseph Wambaugh, and a dozen others.

Mitzi Roberts led the LAPD’s Cold Case Unit, where she was responsible for the continuing investigation of the Black Dahlia case. She apprehended Sam Little, the most prolific serial killer. Her career inspired Connelly’s Amazon series Ballard.

David Tresmontan served in city, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. He developed and continues to serve in the Cold Case Homicide Unit of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
