Eugene O’Neill Foundation, Tao House (EONF), Danville, CA casts for multiple productions each year with our fall festival productions in California and Ireland at the heart of our artistic calendar. Additionally, we stage smaller projects both live and online throughout the year.
EONF is holding auditions for its September/October production of Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape as well as ongoing live and online performances.
The Hairy Ape will be performed at Tao House (Eugene O’Neill National Historic Site) on September 6-21 and then travel to New Ross, Ireland to be remounted for the Eugene O’Neill International Festival of Theatre October 9-12.
We are looking for an ensemble of 8 actors. The four principal actors will travel to Ireland to remount the show in October. We are open to creative casting of the ensemble with an emphasis on actors that can move well as there will be lots of choreography in the show.
Principal Roles:
Robert “Yank” Smith, emotional and physical powerhouse, the heart of the show, 30-50’s
Paddy, seasoned Irish sailor, 40-60’s
Long, socialist agitator, 30-50’s
Mildred, flapper, society heiress, needs to be a strong singer, 20-40’s
We are currently accepting video submissions of two contrasting monologues, not to exceed 4 minutes total. Video submissions are due by March 21, 2025. Please make sure your video is accessible so the casting director will not need to “request access” to view.
The Hairy Ape will be a non-AEA production, but we encourage AEA actors to submit for future projects as we are looking to include AEA talent in the future.
Callbacks for The Hairy Ape will be held in April/May 2025 BY INVITATION ONLY.
